Family Photographer Bristol | When is the Best Time to get My Family Photographs Taken?
In most families there is one person who takes the snap shots, who is always there with camera or phone in hand, capturing the important moments. Obviously, in our family that person is me! More often than not, it seems to be the mum of the family who takes the pictures and whose presence is distinctly lacking in the family albums.
With Mother’s Day coming up, I wanted to draw attention to the importance of mums getting in the frame. I often speak to mums who have just given birth or are feeling worn down by the trials and tribulations of family life. They tell me they would really like some professional photos taken of the family but now is not the right time; they don’t feel like they are looking their best, they want to wait until they feel more like themselves or look more like themselves before arranging their family photo shoot. But the precious moments, the way that it feels when you hold your newborn baby, the way that their sibling cuddles them, the way that your baby looks at you while you feed them, the rhythm you have all developed together as a family, the feeding routines, the bath times, the infuriating amount of time it takes to get your toddler out the door – these moments are fleeting, the routines and patterns change quickly and it may sound cliched but they really are gone before you know it!
I remember feeling exactly this way when I had my first child, 10 years ago. I liked the idea of getting some professional family photographs taken of the three of us but thought it would be better to wait until I had lost my baby weight. However, I was lucky enough to be good friends with a fantastic family photographer who offered to come round to my house and take some very relaxed photographs for us as a gift. I was still getting into the swing of things with my baby and didn’t have the chance to even think about what to wear before she arrived. The other day, I stumbled across these photos and this one below just jumped out at me. Anna had captured such a special moment when I was breastfeeding my baby. It’s amazing how a photograph has the power to transport you back to the moment. I remembered what it felt like to hold my chubby little baby, and how she used to play with my hair and wrap it around her tiny little fingers while I fed her. I’m so grateful to have these photos now and to be able to share the memories with my daughter. The way I look when I see the photos – apart from noticing how young we were – feels pretty irrelevant to me now. I see us, just how we were at that moment in time. Thank you so much Little Bunny Photography for this incredible gift.
